Savvy Design Spotlights Global
Energy Poverty
MPOWERD
launched in 2012 with a lofty aim: eradicating energy poverty in the developing
world. How, exactly? By leveraging science and ingenuity to harness the limitless energy of
the sun, while tapping into the endless potential of innovative design to mastermind a product
embodying the best of all worlds—the Luci light. Multiple solar-charged LEDs power up for
hours of bright light, ideal for creating ambience on a patio or poolside (even in the pool!), and a
top option for camping or hiking.
Alluring and affordable, ultra lightweight and easy to pack and
carry, waterproof and shatterproof—the Luci light is a triumph
of modern design and renewable energy.
Power With A Purpose
For the past five years, MPOWERD has deepened its
commitment to making a global impact by working with
over 300 NG0s to positively influence over 1.5 million lives in
countries all over the world. The sustainable business model
behind the Luci light empowers those who live in areas without
electricity by providing a safe and inexpensive fix to the
common problem of energy poverty. Bringing Luci lights to
these areas means health clinics can stay open later, children
can play or study after dark, families save money on toxic
kerosene, and entrepreneurs can extend their working hours.
Designed To Spark Inspiration
Although the Luci Light is distributed via NGOs in areas
from Kenya to Kibera, its exemplary design has also landed
MPOWERD in Bloomingdales, REI, Ahalife, and plenty of
lifestyle and home boutiques. Luci lights even made a cameo
appearance in a window display at New York’s Guggenheim
Museum. And though the focus is on illuminating solutions
for energy efficiency and equity, MPOWERD isn’t all
business- the lights themselves are sleekly attractive. Take it
from the team: “Fun fact: the Luci Color has been dubbed a
modern-day lava lamp!”
A repeat visitor to NY NOW, MPOWERD is unveiling several exciting new initiatives this year.
“This year we’re introducing new packaging for all our SKUs, an Artist’s Series collection and
a STEM collection, making us the first company to develop a product that teaches the young
generation about the importance of clean, solar energy.”
