Support the Educational Needs
of Pharmacy Technicians
Meet the new PTCB CE Requirements That Begin This Year
E
nsure that the pharmacy technicians
in your organization are prepared for
the new 2015 educational require-
ments. Beginning this year, PTCB-
certified pharmacy technicians are required
to complete technician-specific CE for re-
certification hours. ASHP is pleased to offer
a continuing educa-
tion service designed to meet the unique
educational needs of pharmacy technicians.
One purchase provides more than 30 hours
of continuing education (CE) each year,
enough for purchasers to select from topics
and still meet even the most stringent state or
certifying body CE requirements.
Pharmacy technicians are accepting
greater responsibility in the U.S. healthcare
system. With this increased responsibil-
ity comes a greater need for professional
development. Many technicians struggle to
find budget-friendly, high-quality education
relevant to their careers.
PharmacyTechCE.org is available both
to employers investing in these critical
members of the pharmacy team as well as to
individual pharmacy technicians looking for
technician-designated education. Education
is offered within a variety of categories, in-
cluding: automation, compounding, medica-
tion and patient safety, pharmacy operations,
pharmacy law, professional practice, and
quality improvement. Monthly webinars on
new topics provide live CE options.
UNC Pharmacy Grand Rounds Webcasts
Provide CE on Independent, Unique Topics
Live and On-Demand CE offered
L
ooking for more live CE throughout
the year? Interested in topics that
aren’t offered elsewhere? Purchase a
subscription at either the individual
or the hospital level to receive up to 12
hours of live continuing education (CE)
per learner each year. Learners who cannot
attend the live webcast will have access to
archives of broadcasts.
Presentations feature nationally recog-
nized leaders in progressive pharmaceuti-
cal care practice, education, and research
covering the subject matter they know best.
The 2015 calendar year includes the fol-
lowing topics: transitions of care, manage-
ment of acute burn injury, curtailing the
opioid epidemic, hypertension guidelines,
and more. Topics for 2016 will be added as
educational needs are identified. UNC fac-
ulty members will continue to present new
information and relevant, unique topics for
health-system pharmacists.
In addition to providing education to
their staffs on current topics, adminis-
trators will have the ability to monitor
participation and progress of their learners
online.

ASHP Offers Pharmacy Ambulatory Care Tracker Data System
A
s health systems look beyond a
focus on acute care to gener-
ate new revenue, reduce costs,
and improve patient outcomes,
ambulatory care pharmacists
are at the center of evolv-
ing integrated care mod-
els. Pharmacy directors,
managers, and ambulatory
care pharmacists must be
able to clearly document
the interventions and ser-
vices that they provide.
With ASHP’s Phar-
macy Ambulatory
Care Tracker (PACT),
pharmacies will now
be able to document
the daily patient
encounters and clinical interventions of its
ambulatory care pharmacists, using a range
of nearly 300 interventions based on ap-
plicable SNOMED-CT codes. Ambulatory
care pharmacists using the PACT mobile
app will be able to quickly and easily docu-
ment and report every patient intervention.
PACT is a Cloud-Based data system
designed by pharmacists, for pharmacists.
It will help you show the true value of your
ambulatory care services and keep phar-
macists where they’re needed most—at the
forefront of patient care.
With PACT, ambulatory care clinicians
can swiftly and easily record their patient
care in detailed encounter records that in-
tegrate seamlessly with the PACT Analytics
Dashboard, making it possible for the first
time to track key performance indicators
and clinical endpoint metrics in real-time.
Using data logged by clinicians using the
PACT mobile app, the PACT system will
automatically track essential metrics related
to key performance indicators and clinical
endpoints. The dashboard has been care-
fully curated to help you demonstrate the
value of your ambulatory care pharmacists.
Graphical representations of data will give
you in-the-moment insights to top-level
metrics that can be leveraged immediately
in reports to your c-suite and other stake-
holders.
The app for PACT is now available to
download in the App Store for iOS devices,
and the Android app and administrative
dashboard will be coming this spring. Sign
