NY NOW® Pre Show Planner Winter 2015 - page 8

Sculptor Michael Aram is known for his enduring designs for both contemporary
and classic china, decorative accessories, lighting, furniture,
and—as of this year— jewelry. The common denominator among
his artistic and artisanal creations is inspiration provided by
nature, realized through age-old handcraft techniques. The
Michael Aram collection can be found at department stores
and independent stores worldwide, as well as the Michael Aram
Flagship in New York.
2014 marks the 25th year anniversary of Michael Aram’s
founding in 1989. Two anniversary collections, the Atelier
Collection and the Commemorative Collection, were introduced
this year to celebrate the milestone. As with all of his products,
each piece is entirely handmade and one-of-a-kind.
Q: Who designs and makes Michael Aram products?
A:
I design each piece with the help of my team. I travel
frequently between our workshop in New Delhi and my design
studio in New York. I collaborate with craftsmen in our New Delhi workshop in the making of
our pieces.
Q: What are your current best-selling products? To what do you attribute their continued
popularity and relevance?
A:
The Black Orchid tabletop collection has been a consistently successful
collection for us. It strikes a chord with our customer because it
represents the best of our handmade craft and my influence from nature’s
most beautiful sources.
Q: When you’re not in the studio, what are some of your favorite
hobbies or pastimes?
A:
I spend most of my off-time with my family, traveling and discovering
new inspiration to incorporate into my work.
Q: Are there any new products being introduced at NY NOW in January?
A:
Spring 2015 marks an important time for Michael Aram. We are
expanding our product offering with the addition of furniture and lighting,
addressing new layers and areas of home décor.
“We have participated in NY NOW for a long time.
The show is an important space in the Eastern region
which consistently offers new innovation in the home
and gift markets.”
