What’s New
This August, 1canoe2 will return to NY NOW for the fifth
time, because the combination of stationery and gift items
appeals to so many buyers. Look for a new recipe box, recipe
cards and coordinating notepad, new everyday and holiday
greeting cards, and a few “top secret” products.
The World Go Round Project
Each month, 1canoe2 presents products that thank someone
who makes the world go round by their everyday service. So
far, they’ve said “thanks” to the mailman, handyman, stylist,
tax preparer, and teacher. Read more at

The Name?
“The name 1canoe2 comes from years of Beth and I
dreaming up big ideas around a campfire and floating
down a spring-fed Missouri river in a canoe. One canoe,
two girls. One canoe, two,” Carrie explains.

Meet the Midwestern trio behind 1canoe2
In a big red barn on a farm in Columbia, Missouri, Carrie Shryock sits down with pencil,
pen, and paint to create the artwork which will eventually end up on a greeting card,
recipe box, or tea towel. Along with her childhood friend Beth Snyder and her sister-
in-law Karen Shryock, the trio of professional illustrators, designers and printers have
transformed their love for hand-illustrated art, patterns and lettering into a thriving
business, which they founded in 2009.
Much of the inspiration for their work is drawn from being outside and enjoying their
Midwestern surroundings. Although they originally began with letterpress, the designs
and careful color choices translate well to paper, tea towels, wood and fabric.
For Carrie, it begins with nature – big open prairie spaces, farmland, mountaintop
views, or gazing out over the vastness of the ocean. “There’s something about being in
a big place and feeling so small that makes me appreciate the grandness and beauty of
the world,” she says.
