4 AUA2021 DAILY NEWS • SUNDAY • SEPTEMBER 12, 2021 Residents Forum highlights career advice, policy efforts and more If you’re a urology resident or fellow, you won’t want to miss the AUA2021 Residents Forum! A s is true for most things in life, the future rests on the shoulders of the next generation. Join the AUA Residents and Fellows Committee for the world’s largest gathering of residents at the Annual Meeting—a critical event for the young physicians who will shape the practice of urology. This year’s Forum, “Working Today to Plan for Tomorrow,” takes place Sunday and will feature motivating speakers and interactive discussions on health policy, applying and interviewing for fellowships, applying and interviewing for jobs, contract negotiation and more. The Forum will launch with a brief welcome and a sponsor symposium titled “Leveraging the Intuitive Ecosystem to Expand Minimally Invasive Access for Patients.” Next, residents should pay particular attention to the panel offerings that are sprinkled throughout the four hours of information and education, said Juan J. Javier-DesLoges, MD, MS, a urological oncology fellow at University of California San Diego Health and chair of the AUA Residents and Fellows Committee. “This year, there will be three panels,” he said. “The first panel will focus on health policy and feature speakers who have been involved with policy efforts over the last decade on behalf of urologists.” “We also have a panel on interviewing and applying for fellowship, which will include representatives from the subspecialties of endourology, urologic oncology, female urology, reconstructive surgery and pediatric urology,” he said. “Lastly, we will host a panel on interviewing and applying for jobs featuring department chairs from academic centers, private hospital systems and also private practices.” In addition to panel discussions, other highlights of the Residents Forum include updates about important changes from the AUA Office of Education, the American Board of Urology and the Young Urologist’s Committee as well as information about contract negotiations. Residents do not need to register in advance and can attend the forum without registering. However, something to keep in mind for future annual meetings is that registering early comes with a bonus, said Dr. Javier-DesLoges. A limited number (110) of travel stipends ($500) are available to Resident/Fellow AUA members who RSVP and attend in person on a first-come, first-served basis. Regardless of the time of registration or whether a travel stipend was provided, all Residents Forum attendees will be entered into a raffle to win one of two $75 gift cards to Amazon, said Dr. Javier-DesLoges. The raffle will take place at the end of the event along with closing remarks. The Residents Forum is sponsored by Intuitive.
