Velasquez, RN, MS, ACNP-BC George Bakris, MD, was a professor of medicine and director of the American Heart Association’s Comprehensive Hypertension Center at the University of Chicago. Over his career, Dr. Bakris authored more than 800 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters on diabetic kidney disease, hypertension and nephropathy progression. Additionally, he was editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Nephrology, an ad hoc editor of Diabetes Care and an international consulting editor of Hypertension Research.
