14 SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS DAILY NEWS | Day 2 Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024 Hands-on learning in the Simulation Zone Located in the Heart Hub Innovative start-ups vie to revolutionize CV care Groundbreaking health care technology solutions aimed at combating cardiovascular disease and stroke were the focus of yesterday’s Health Tech Competition, where five finalists presented their ideas to a panel of judges in the Health Innovation Pavilion. This live event aims to drive technological advancements with the potential to transform heart and brain health patient outcomes. “The Center for Health Technology & Innovation is dedicated to fostering impactful solutions for global health challenges,” said Robert A. Harrington, MD, FAHA, chair of the American Heart Association’s Health Tech Advisory Group for the Center for Health Technology and Innovation. “Through their network, members can collaborate, access valuable resources and accelerate advancements that address critical issues through cutting-edge science and technology.” Finalists had seven minutes to pitch their innovation to judges, followed by a seven-minute Q&A. Saturday’s presentations focused on the business impact of their technology. The finalists will return to the Health Innovation Pavilion at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow for another round of presentations focusing on the science and evidence of their products. This year’s finalists are: • Rheoxtech, Inc. (Chicago): The Rheox Reperfusion System, which isolates and reoxygenates ischemic tissue gradually. • Proton Intelligence (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada): The CKM continuous potassium monitor. • Powerful Medical (New York City): PMcardio, an AI-powered cardiovascular diagnostics and care-coordination platform. • HekaHeart (San Mateo, California): Integrated, virtual first Heart Failure Clinic with AI-driven care platform and remote providers. • Flow Medical (Chicago): Thrombosis catheter designed for pulmonary vasculature to penetrate clots in treating pulmonary embolism. Judges will evaluate solutions based on validity, scientific rigor and patient impact, including how effectively each product tackles a pervasive issue in areas such as antithrombotic therapy, heart failure, imaging and hypertension. The Health Tech Competition continues to be a key initiative in advancing lifesaving health care technologies. It is supported by the Laerdal Million Lives Fund and reflects the AHA’s commitment to longer, healthier lives.
