Pedowitz 62 1997 In a landmark move to protect its members from further loss of professional privileges, ACOFP reissues all Certificates of Certification, adding the words “osteopathic manipulative treatment” to “family practice.” 2000 ACOFP introduces its annual Osteopathic Family Medicine In-Service Training Exam. 2004 ACOFP inducts its first class of distinguished fellows, honoring 21 recipients. Among them are two past ACOFP presidents, Mary M. Burnett, DO, FACOFP dist., and John Sevastos, DO, FACOFP dist., who are recognized with the inaugural award. The Distinguished Service Award is established to honor individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service to the ACOFP through committee involvement or other activities that further the organization’s objectives. The ACOFP president selects the award recipient, and the first recipients of this prestigious award are Elton D. Lehman, DO, Marcelino Oliva Jr, DO, FACOFP dist., and Robert G. Maul, DO, FACOFP. 2006 The ACOFP Osteopathic Family Young Physician of the Year Award is established to recognize physicians who have made significant contributions to family medicine within two to five years of entering the specialty. The first recipient of this award is Robert N. Pedowitz, DO, who demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities that honor the memory of Michael F. Avallone, DO, FACOFP dist., after whom the award is created. 2007 The ACOFP Lifetime Achievement Award is established to honor outstanding contributions to osteopathic family medicine. The inaugural recipients of this prestigious award are Ethan R. Allen, DO, FACOFP, Mary M. Burnett, DO, FACOFP dist., and Joseph W. Stella, DO, FACOFP dist.
