ACOFP: OUR CONTINUING HISTORY 147 Leadership not only admired by ACOFP’s membership, but by all the staff who served under him. It is not an exaggeration to say that ACOFP is a better organization today because of his strong and steady leadership. Pete held this position until Nov. 30, 2018, when he retired a little bit earlier to spend quality time with his wife Donna, two children, and eight grandkids (aged six months to 14 years old). Having checked off most of their travel destinations in the past five years, Pete and Donna continue to love on their grandchildren and help out at the local church food pantry. Pete’s avocation is bicycle riding, and he often rides 30 to 50 miles in a day (not on an e-bike), averaging 2,500 miles per year. Eighteen years of working for ACOFP trained him to now serve as president of the Arlington Heights Bicycle Club, with 200 members and a $2,500 budget! After Peter Schmelzer notified Dr. Duane Koehler, 2018 ACOFP president, that he was planning on retiring, panic ensued, but the Search Committee was fortunate to have several talented applications for ACOFP executive director. The committee, by diligent review and a good stroke of luck, chose Bob Moore. Bob Moore, MA, MS, FASAE, CAE, became ACOFP’s new executive director Dec. 1, 2018, succeeding Peter Schmelzer. Bob was an experienced association management executive who had a successful career in building chapter relations, advancing membership growth, launching profitable programs in continuing education and professional development, and developing innovative business models and strategic operations. The Search Committee believed that Bob brought outstanding experience and strategic knowledge that could successfully guide ACOFP through a changing landscape, while ensuring that ACOFP was the leading voice for osteopathic family medicine nationwide. Dr. Robert C. DeLuca had the opportunity to work closely with Bob when visiting the ACOFP office to review committee appointments. Dr. DeLuca felt Bob provided a new view 2018 ACOFP President Duane G. Koehler, DO, FACOFP dist., with Bob Moore on their first business trip in December 2018.
