ACOFP: Our Continuing History

138 Leadership her presidential remarks at the 2020 ACOFP annual convention. For her, this slogan from the American World War II wartime poster was a way to celebrate female leadership in the profession and the power of what can be accomplished when everyone works together. While the installation and plans for the convention did not go as planned, her mantra was perfectly timed given the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. It also served as a reflection of her perseverance and positive outlook on what can be accomplished when the board, leadership, volunteers, members, and staff come together to accomplish things bigger than any one person. One doesn’t have to look far to see how Dr. Bixler selflessly adjusted her leadership to support ACOFP during those unprecedented two years, from delaying and extending her presidency to being the first president whose entire term took place during a pandemic. During Dr. Bixler’s presidency, her biggest accomplishment was the DEI Task Force, which consisted of 33 members that she appointed. The task force received a tremendous response by connecting with a segment of ACOFP’s membership that had not been engaged with previously. It produced significant results, including a thorough report with well thought out recommendations that were unanimously approved by the board. Many of the task force members have also shared their time, energy, and perspectives by writing for the ACOFP blog. Dr. Bixler’s extra efforts in leading and supporting this initiative have produced many positive outcomes. Dr. Bixler practices at Immediate MedCare and Family Doctor of Spring Hill, Florida, where she focuses on the geriatric population, providing outpatient and inpatient services using a unique capitated at-risk alternative payment model. Dr. Bixler was appointed as a director to the board for Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in 2024. She currently serves on the Florida Prostate Cancer Advisory Council, appointed by the state surgeon general. She holds an appointment of clinical associate professor at the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine at NOVA Southeastern University, and she has been a preceptor to students in rural family medicine since 2010. She has also served as core teaching faculty for the HCA Oak Hill Hospital Family Medicine Residency since its inception in 2017. Dr. Bixler is proud to be a full-time working physician and a mother of three girls while serving in leadership roles at the state and national levels, and she hopes to be an inspiration to other young women in the profession. 2022–2023 BRUCE R. WILLIAMS, DO, FACOFP dist. Missouri Dr. Williams focused his presidency on the idea of a “family reunion.” His aims were to reconnect the ACOFP family post-pandemic, highlight the importance of osteopathy in family medicine, and strengthen the sense of community and osteopathic pride in graduating osteopathic family physicians. As ACOFP readjusted to in-person meetings, gatherings, and conferences, it was important to Dr. Williams that he help reconnect members to ACOFP. He participated in a reunification of ACOFP around the country as members got together in person, in some instances, for the first time in several years. Dr. Williams also led ACOFP in its efforts to advocate for osteopathic
