104 Leadership 1954–1955 FRANK YORK LEE, DO, “MD” Los Angeles, California Born: Nov. 4, 1914; Education: COPS; Graduated: 1937. Dr. Lee was the first Asian American president of ACOFP. He also served as chair of the selection committee that chose the second Osteopathic Family Physician of the Year, Claude B. Root, DO, in 1956, serving as past president under H. W. Wagonseller. Dr. Lee was a physician for the Chinese Olympic teams for many years and was very active with Olympic committees that sponsored the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in 1984. Although he accepted the “little MD” degree in 1962, he assisted the Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of California (OPSC) in all its efforts to regain DO licensure in the state. He participated in legislative lobbying and hearings that supported the DO profession. Dr. Lee was also active in supporting a new osteopathic college in Pomona, where his son practiced as a DO. In 1977, Dr. Lee became one of the original members of the Board of the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP), and he continued in this role until poor health caused his resignation. 1955–1956 H. WAYNE WAGONSELLER, DO, “MD” Calabasas, California Born: April 13, 1908; Died: June 3, 1987; Education: COPS; Graduated: 1933. Dr. Wagonseller was very active in beginning the process to gain recognition for ACGPOMS (ACOFP) by AOA for designation as a specialty, which was met with some opposition from AOA leadership at that time. 1956–1957 JOHN V. FIORE, “MD,” DO, JD, FACOFP Los Angeles, California Born: Oct. 4, 1910; Education: COPS; Graduated: 1947. Dr. Fiore worked alongside Dr. Collins to develop their vision for ACOFP, and it is believed that Dr. Fiore was the driving force behind the dream. The two used their circle of associates to form the nucleus of the newfound organization. In 1997, ACOFP received a letter from Dr. Fiore, who wished to make some clarifications for the new directory. Dr. Fiore noted he was listed as joining ACOFP in 1989, and he wished to clarify his degrees and demographic data. The letter sat in a file until recently, and a check of our charter identified him as one of the founders if not the original founder of ACOFP. Dr. Fiore was a graduate of Rutgers University with a BA in 1932, and a LLB and JD in 1936. Dr. Lee served as president of the International Association of Olympic Medical Officers during the 1984 Olympics held in Los Angeles.
